Evan Beachy has over a decade of experience playing the trombone. He attended Northern Garrett High School in Accident, MD, and was invited to perform with the Maryland All-State Band and Orchestra, the WVU Invitational Mountaineer Honor Band, the Mid-Atlantic Honor Band, and the Fairmont State Honor Band. Evan was also an active member in community ensembles such as the Garrett Community Band, the Garrett Jazz Ensemble, and the Garrett Choral Society, all groups he frequently performs with. He graduated from Oberlin Conservatory as a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in trombone performance. Beachy studied with legendary jazz musician Jay Ashby for a semester, and he played with the Oberlin Jazz Trombone Choir for four semesters under Ashby's direction.
In January of 2023, Beachy went to Carnegie Hall, NYC with the Oberlin Orchestra to perform Nathaniel Dett's "The Ordering of Moses." He is also an avid chamber musician, performing with several different brass quintets on tenor trombone, bass trombone, and tuba. Beachy is a frequent guest trombonist with the West Virginia Brass Quintet. Beachy has also been selected to perform at internationally-recognized summer music festivals such as the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute, the International Trombone Summit, the Chautauqua Music School Festival Orchestra, and the Blekinge International Brass Academy in Stockholm, Sweden.
Beachy advanced to the semi-final round of the Toledo Symphony bass trombone audition in February of 2023, and was a finalist in the Atlanta Ballet bass trombone audition in August of 2024. In October 2024, Beachy won the bass trombone audition for the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, a position he holds today. In addition to being an orchestral musician, Beachy is a competitive soloist. He was the 2nd alternate trombonist for the 2024 American Trombone Workshop Bass Trombone Solo Competition (23 and under division). Playing the John Williams Tuba Concerto, Beachy was also a finalist in the 2024 Oberlin Concerto Competition. Evan Beachy is the 1st alternate trombonist for the all ages division of the 2025 American Trombone Workshop Bass Trombone Solo Competition. He recently performed Barnacle Bill the Sailor with the Oberlin Trombone Choir.
